Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, where casino gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that features many comforts in addition to the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
